Environmental situation and sustainable development (1998)
The aim of the research is, on the one hand, to provide a contribution to knowledge of the current overall situation regarding waste production, its geographical distribution and disposal. On the other hand, a contribution to reflection with the aim of stimulating debate on future environmental policy choices in the light, above all, of the legislative innovation introduced by DDL n. 22/97. The first objective of the research was to give a reliable picture of the current situation in Italy with regard to both the production and disposal of solid urban waste and the production of waste of industrial origin. An attempt was also made to offer an in-depth critical analysis of the radical innovations which, with the substantial transposition of European directives on waste management, were introduced into our legislation by DDL n. 22/97. In addition, another objective was to reconstruct the debate on the subject of sustainable development and the environmental situation.
