Italy in the game. Economic and employment prospects of the introduction of bingo in Italy (2000)
Bingo, unlike other state-run games, seems, to have positive effects on both the state budget and employment, at least in theory. Moreover, for the same social risk, Bingo allows for the control of people at risk of bankruptcy: thanks to the compulsory filing required by the control system, it is possible to exclude them from the game. In this work, we have tried to highlight the reasons why it would have been more appropriate to activate Bingo halls a long time ago, rather than focusing on games and lotteries that do not give any employment return. The report was organised in three sections: a first chapter dedicated to gambling in general, to the evolution of games and lotteries in Italy in recent years, with particular emphasis on the financial aspects. A second part analyses the legislation and the regulation of the Bingo game in Spain: one of the two European countries where it is most widespread (together with Great Britain). In the same chapter a specific case, that of the Spanish region Murcia is also taken into consideration to analyse the economic aspects related to the game. The paper is completed, after analysing the probabilistic aspect, with a study of the possible economic and employment effects that the introduction of the game could produce in our Country.
