Alfons Schmid

Professor of Economics and Chairman of IWAK – Institut fuer Wirtschaft, Arbeit, Kultur at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. His main areas of scientific research concern: regional development of employment and labour markets; new information technologys and impacts on employment situation; regional competitiveness, regional studies in poverty and wealth and regional forecasting of qualitications. He has long years of involvement in numerous transnational research cooperations. Besides his research activities, he consults public bodies on issues of vocational education and further training and conducted numerous studies for ministries and EU organisation. He was one of the initiators of the European Network of Regional Labor Market Monitoring.
