From Asia to Sardinia for a dialogue on employment services
A delegation from Asia, including 25 Employment Service Managers (PES), has confirmed its participation in the 17th annual meeting promoted by the European Network on Regional and Local Labour Markets ENRLMM in collaboration with Eurispes.
The meeting will take place in Tempio Pausania, Sardinia, on 13-14 October 2022.
The mission of the Asian officials will be an opportunity to discuss the policies and organisation of employment services in Europe and Italy. It will also be an opportunity to build a collaborative link with representatives of realities that are distant in geography but close in economics and undergoing a major development phase. The purpose of the mission to Sardinia, promoted with the support of the GIZ, the Cooperation Agency of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is to «strengthen labour market information systems (LMIS) in ASEAN member states as a basis for better skills and employment policies». The aim – as stated in the presentation document – «is to find out how other countries in the European region improve labour market governance (…)and to acknowledge the importance of multi-state and regional collaboration to strengthen labour market information and skills anticipation systems». These goals are linked with the topic that will be developed by experts and practitioners at the upcoming conference in Tempo Pausania, focusing on the importance of the application of Artificial Intelligence systems in the labour market and related public and private services to improve their level of performance. The discussion results will be applied by Asian delegates to help strengthen the ASEAN-sponsored labour policy plan for 2021-2025 (SLOM-WG Plan sponsored by Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam).
ASEAN, to whom the representatives on the mission to Italy, in Tempio Pausania, refer, is the large regional association of South-East Asian states. It was established in the 1990s and comprised the following countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia. In recent years, its role has grown steadily to become an important focal point for other states as well, starting with China. ASEAN has free trade agreements throughout the Pacific area, with states such as China, Australia, New Zealand, India, Japan and South Korea. It is worth noting that this year Indonesia holds the presidency of the G20 and has already held the Labour Ministers’ summit in Bali on 12 September on topics that will be resumed and explored in detail at the Tempio Pausania conference. The Recommendations delivered to the G20 summit by the trade unions are particularly relevant in this regard.
