“Prevention and research to reduce health inequalities” – Interview with the Vice President of the Senate of the Republic, Mariolina Castellone, given to Eurispes’ online magazine
PRESS RELEASE
“We need to build a new culture of prevention, one capable of placing nutrition and healthy lifestyles at the centre of health policies. We cannot ignore the fact that economic conditions also affect the possibility of leading a healthy life, especially in the most fragile areas and in the regions of Southern Italy. Investing in prevention means investing in health and, at the same time, reducing inequalities.” This was stated by the Vice President of the Senate of the Republic, Mariolina Castellone, during an interview given to the online magazine of Eurispes – Institute for Political, Economic and Social Studies, conducted by Antonio Alizzi, on the occasion of the fourth edition of the “Nutrition & Longevity Festival” in Cervia, promoted by the Valter Longo Foundation.

Castellone, who as part of the Festival also spoke at the round table “Institutions and Longevity”, alongside the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, Professor Valter Longo and the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Antonluca Matarazzo, thus drew attention to the relationship between prevention, lifestyles and social and territorial inequalities, and spoke in favour of the prospect of establishing an Italian Institute for Longevity: a goal shared across different political orientations, in the belief that research, prevention and healthy longevity can represent a strategic area for the country. The Vice President of the Senate also emphasised the value of initiatives capable of creating a bridge between scientific research, institutions and citizens, and of spreading a conception of prevention as an investment rather than a cost.
