On Saturday 13 July, the proceedings will begin at 9.30 a.m. with reflections on “Actions to counter and reduce territorial gaps”, “Infrastructuring internal areas”, and “Local authorities as garrisons of resilience in peripheral areas”. This will be followed by discussions on “The third sector as an engine of development in the Mezzogiorno”, “Integration between communities for the future of inland areas”, “Good practices of cultural and social innovation for inland areas” and “Young people and inland areas: a possible combination”. The meeting will be closed by Aldo Berlinguer, President of the Observatory on insularity and inland areas of Eurispes and Professor at the University of Cagliari. The meeting will be moderated by Paola Porcelli, Director of the Campania regional office of Eurispes.
Maria Beatrice Fucci, Head of Research for Inland Areas at Futuridea, states that “it will be a two-day event of reflections and concrete proposals with illustrious speakers from the cultural, scientific, entrepreneurial, academic and associative worlds on the future of inland areas in order not to homologate to the existing reality, but to see its limits and contradictions, with the aim of identifying new viable paths”. Aldo Berlinguer, President of Eurispes’ Observatory on insularity and inland areas, adds that ‘islands and inland areas represent almost 70% of the surface area of our country. Unfortunately, they are depopulating and necrotizing. There is no more time. It is necessary to put them back at the centre of the national agenda and identify useful solutions for their redemption’.
