The Eurispes at the International Mediterranean Day
As every year, 8 July is International Mediterranean Day, an important opportunity to raise awareness about the state of the sea and the dangers that threaten it. Eurispes’ contribution on the subject will be presented at the conference “Mare Nostrum – Sea of Peace. Aspetti socio-ambientali del Mediterraneo” that will be held at the Chamber of Deputies (Palazzo Theodoli, Sala Matteotti) on 8 July 2024, from 3.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
The conference is organised by the Fondazione Acqua with the collaboration of the Sapienza University of Rome and UniNettuno University, Eurispes, and the environmental associations AISTA, EcoItaliaSolidale, and Marevivo.
The Mediterranean Basin – perhaps few know – is an area with more living species than any other sea on the planet. But it has to deal with three major problems: pollution, fish exploitation and climate change.
This year, with the slogan ‘A Sea of Peace’, International Mediterranean Day is dedicated to all (too many) those who have lost their lives in that sea: women, men and children who have tried to cross the Mediterranean, fleeing war or hunger, and have been sucked into it.
The conference will be opened by the President of the XII Lazio Region Commission, Hon. Nazareno Neri, and concluded by the representative of the Ministry for Civil Protection and Sea Policies, Fabio Rota.
