New EU Commission: a meeting to discuss Defence, Housing and the Mediterranean
On Tuesday 22 October 2024, new priorities in Europe will be discussed at the meeting “New EU Commission: a focus on Defence, the Mediterranean and Housing” starting at 3 p.m. in Rome, in the spaces of Esperienza Europa – David Sassoli in Piazza Venezia 6.
At the centre of the debate will be the new European Commission led by President Ursula von der Leyen and the areas of interest identified with the respective ad hoc Commissioners. The conference is organised by Adnkronos Eurofocus with the representatives of the Commission and the European Parliament.
The proceedings will be opened by the Director of the European Parliament in Italy, Carlo Corazza, and Elena Grech, Head of Office of the EU Commission Representation in Italy. Fabio Insenga and Giorgio Rutelli, Deputy Editors of Adnkronos, will moderate the debate.
The first of the three panels will be on ‘Defence, the industry between coordination and competitiveness‘, in which Alessandro Politi, Director of the Nato Defence College Foundation and Roberta Pinotti, former Minister of Defence, will speak about strategic plans and common European Defence.
The Secretary General of Eurispes, Marco Ricceri, will speak on the topic ‘Mediterranean, a centrality to be rediscovered‘, together with the Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies, Nello Musumeci. The speakers will address issues related to investments and existing economic agreements with North Africa and the Middle East, with the aim of promoting stability and economic and employment growth.
Other central themes will include security and the management of migratory flows. The housing crisis in many European cities, linked to rising prices and the shortage of affordable housing, with repercussions on social inclusion and the sustainability of urban fabric, will be addressed in the panel ‘Housing, from emergency to a common plan for housing’, with speakers Lucia Albano, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Federica Brancaccio, President of ANCE (National Association of Building Contractors).
