The book presentation, also attended by the author, is organised in collaboration with Eurispes and Guerini Editore.

The book allows us to enter the Italian “financial quagmire” – as described in the volume’s subtitle –in Italy’s role in the reconstruction of Iraq and in the Mediterranean integration process through the direct experience of a manager who held strategic and prestigious positions in those years. The comment by the lawyer Gianni Agnelli, quoted in Roberto Longoni’s introduction, when the author was appointed CEO of Montedison is well known: «Is it ever possible – said the lawyer on that occasion – to have at the top of Italy’s second largest group a chairman, Schimberni, who is the son of a barber, and a CEO who is the son of a former railway labourer?». This is just one of the milestones of “Carda” (as he was called in Foro Bonaparte), an individual who, as they say, was a self-made man. As a matter of fact, the book narrates a personal and professional story intertwined with the most important events of the last fifty years of Republican history, both in the economic and institutional spheres. This is how the story of an individual turns into a multitude of connected, or often parallel, stories to recount certain facts of Italy from an informed and privileged perspective.

The participation of the Secretary General of Eurispes is also motivated by the relationship of esteem and deep friendship with the author that has matured since way back in 1972, when both were selected by the World Leadership Forum for a month of studies in Salzburg on the post-industrial society with the great American thinker and sociologist Daniel Bell, promoter of this idea of a new world.
