Available online the survey conducted by Eurispes on the habits of heated tobacco users
The study carried out by Eurispes highlights, first of all, a growth in the market for smokeless products against a decrease – as shown by the ISS data – of conventional smokers. Some significant indications also emerge. For example, according to 91.9% of the users of heated tobacco products, the State would have a duty to promote information campaigns should it be scientifically proven that combustion-free products are less harmful than conventional ones, and the percentage of those who would like to see a reduction in taxation on such products is just as high (90.1%). For 71.6%, it would also be fair to incentivise such products by subjecting them to fewer bans and restrictions than conventional products, while only a minority would prefer a neutral attitude by applying the same rules as for conventional products (39.4%). 79.5% of the users of heated tobacco products stated that they gave up traditional cigarettes after switching to smokeless products. 85% of users of heated tobacco products agree to some extent that smokers, who would otherwise continue to smoke, should be encouraged by the state and health institutions to consider switching to heated tobacco products (45.9% “probably yes” and 39.1% “absolutely yes”).
Prior to switching to heated tobacco products, 87% of the respondents smoked traditional cigarettes, 8.8% electronic cigarettes, 2.7% other traditional tobacco products and only 1.5% did not use any products. It can therefore be seen that almost all users of heated tobacco choose it as an alternative or in addition to a previously used smoking product (98.5%), while very few use it as a first approach.
The survey was also carried out thanks to the contribution of Philip Morris Italia and can be viewed in full at https://eurispes.eu/ricerca-rapporto/indagine-il-consumo-di-tabacco-riscaldato-opinioni-ed-esperienze-2023/
