Brics coordination: what is it really? Eurispes presents the publication at “Più Libri – Più Liberi”

Rome, December 7, 2023, 4.30 p.m. – 5.30 p.m. at the “Più Libri – Più Liberi” Fair, Sala Sirio, Eurispes presents the book “Il Coordinamento BRICS. Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa on the Global Scene. Constitution, Evolution, Prospects of a New Model of International Cooperation” published by Armando Editore.

The idea of this volume is to give an answer as to what Brics coordination really is. In order to do this, evaluations elaborated in a systemic way by a qualified group of experts, engaged in the analysis and observation of the important international coordination, have been collected within a specific Laboratory on Brics that has been promoted since 2015 by Eurispes, Institute for Political, Economic and Social Studies.

There is no doubt that the decision taken in August 2023, at the annual Brics summit chaired by South Africa, to expand the coordination to six new members has attracted much attention and interest, particularly among the international press. The possible future impact on the world order is being widely questioned. In order to find plausible answers, it therefore becomes necessary to conduct an in-depth examination of the Brics reality and to analyse the numerous elements that characterise this original experience of cooperation, referring to the policies and plans projected both inside and outside the coordination.

In the introduction to the book, Gian Maria Fara, President of Eurispes, emphasises the importance of the scientific community’s contribution, including the Italian one, for a correct assessment of the processes of change taking place on the international scene, which certainly mark a time that is anything but ordinary. A real reform of the global order requires serious, systemic, interdisciplinary studies, which are also necessary to support practices of positive confrontation between the different coordinations of the current multilateral system, among which the Brics reality has also emerged.
